The beaches of Positano…

Updated: Dec 5, 2024

SPIAGGIA GRANDE

This is the large main beach you see when you arrive in Positano by boat. The beach is divided into three zones. The one on the other side from the harbour is where you can rent a beach chair all day long. In the middle of the beach there is a private zone that is accessible only to the inhabitants of Positano. And finally, the part of the beach that is closest to the port, is public and free for everyone to enjoy.

On the private beaches you can pay for the sun bed at the entrance (if available), or book online. Furthest away from the dock along the beach, we often visit the beach L'incanto. The image above is from this beach. We will recommend to pay a little extra to get a sunbed on one of the front rows. You will also find the more exclusive La Scogliera next to this beach. Here you will experience a little more privacy in picturesque surrondings.

In the app https://www.spiagge.it/ You will be able to book at various beaches in Italy. Here you can also order drinks and simple serving in the app, which is served by the sun beds.

Spiaggia Grande is always overcrowded and busy, there is a lot going on here. Or to say it in another way. Everything happens here. The ferries enter the port, the small boats enter the harbour, the boats lines up and waits for their time slot to drop off or receive passengers, the larger the boat, the longer you have to wait in place. There are restaurants, kiosks, ferry companies, kayaks, boat rental shops and generally there are a lot of people here.

Get up early in the morning and walk down to the beach before all the tourists wake up and the ferries arrive. Take a beautiful morning bath in the beautiful, quiet surroundings and take your Instagram photo of Positano from the sea or the beach before the city wakes up to life.

SPIAGGIA DI FORNILLO

This beach is on the west side of Positano. It is only an easy walk from Marina Grande along the sea, and not too many stairs, before you get to Spiaggia di Fornillo. Here it is quieter than at the busy main beach close to ferry and boat traffic. The beach also has several beach clubs and restaurants. Here it is also divided into zones where you can choose to pay for a spot, or you can have a swim in the public part of the beach.

There are also taxi boats that will take you back to Spiaggia Grande, or the main port, if you prefer not to walk the road or the stairs back to your hotel again.

LAURITO BEACH CUCINA & CAMERE

If you are looking for a quieter and unique atmosphere, less people, more luxury and beautiful surroundings then we can recommend you this beach club. Previously, this place was called Tre Ville Beach Club. The beach, also called Laurito, is shared between the beach club Laurito and the little more down-to-earth restaurant, Da Adolfo. They are both beautifully located in the quiet bay. The contrast between these two clubs could not have been greater.

Laurito Beach is a luxury beach club and they also have a small hotel with a few rooms on the beach. This side of the beach has extra large, white beach chairs, with white umbrellas and tables, and there are limited places. They have a large white house with great columns and a beautiful large covered outdoor terrace. There are shower rooms, dressing rooms and lounge areas. The meals served here are fantastic. Vibe is luxury and comfort.

On the other side of this beach is Da Adolfo, this beach club is also very popular. The vibe is completely different. You get the feeling of “That 70’s Vibe.” The restaurant is built like a cottage. There is a large outdoor terrace, and people sit tightly on the benches side by side. The kitchen is built inside the mountain. This restaurant is also very popular among the locals. And there are often a lots of people and good mood.

HOW TO GET TO LAURITO BEACH:

You will be picked up by boat from the port of Positano. All beach clubs have their own boats with flags or signs with the name of the beach club. They start picking up their guests around 10 a.m. every morning for those who have booked at the beach clubs. They drive back and forth all day between the beach clubs and Positano. The last boat back again to Positano leaves about seven in the evening. The tour is included in the beach price. It is a lovely little boat trip of about 10 minutes where you drive past all the yachts that lie anchored up and you get to see the beautiful Amalfi coast from the sea. Laurito Beach is a top spot.

If you want to spend a quiet day at Laurito Beach, make sure to book in advance. We often observe people coming here by boat, just to get the next boat back to Positano, not having checked availability in advance. We have experienced that the easiest way is to book via the hotel you stay at.
