Wine and Dine at Susafa…

Updated: Apr 23, 2024

SUSAFA

We arrived in Susafa early in the day, and our room was not quite clear yet. We were invited by a smiling girl, Asia, up to a roof terrace to get something cold to drink. A few minutes later, she came back with homemade orange and almond juice. God so good! Feel at home, she says, we make sure your luggage comes to your room. Just use the facilities and there is lunch at the pool served from 13:00.

The morning passed so fast. We met wonderful people here, including Mr. Tony and Mr. Frankfurt. A lovely couple that gave us so many laughs.

Susafa has only a few rooms, and it is an adult only hotel. No children under 14 are allowed. There is no TV or minibar in the room. Here the surroundings are to be experienced, and we could not have agreed more. In addition, the owners of Susafa are very aware of how we should best take care of our Mother Earth. The food is organic, zero milage, and completely been abandoned. They take pride in producing their own grain, such as wheat along with olive oils, vegetables, spices, and more.

Asia informed us, after a wonderful lunch outdoors, that our room was ready. In the room there was an envelope with our name, which turned out to be an invitation to take part in a baking course after breakfast the next day. It was free and included in the room price. Clearly we were in heaven.

Dinner is served in a beautiful building, which was formerly a large farmhouse. There are large ceilings and tall walls and at the end of the room there is a large fireplace. It feels cool and homey. In the middle of the room there is a large marble table where we would bake bread tomorrow, we were told. The food is home-made and all the ingredients come from this farm, or the neighboring farms. They put their pride in the fact that everything is organic and «zero kilometro». Everything tastes great and we could not have been more pleased. This place is so enjoyable with everything they do and one can not avoid being impressed by the whole place.

This place really took us with a storm. And we will definitely come back here every time we visit Sicily, but then to stay for several days. We know they have much more to offer, and we can hardly wait to get back out here in no-man’s land, far out in the countryside of Sicily. Susafa has a fantastic historical value, but we leave it to the staff to tell you the stories when you visit the place.
